Concrete Piers: Quality Foundation for Your Structure
When it comes to concrete work, there are several different types. One concrete type is concrete piers. A concrete pier is an important component in the foundation for many structures and can be used as the base for a variety of buildings including homes, commercial properties, bridges, or anything else that needs a solid structure.
The concrete pier is a structure that supports the weight of your building, typically used in conjunction with other types of foundation such as the slab on grade or post-tension.
Concrete Piers are either precast and placed at construction time, or cast after pouring. The latter method requires special reinforcement to hold it together until cured.
Why should I use them for my foundation?
The use of precast concrete piers is an affordable option when compared with other types of foundations such as steel, wood pilings, or caissons. It is also quicker than these options which save time and money on your project while still providing strength and reliability due to it being cast in place rather than assembled elsewhere then transported to its location.
The concrete pier supports offer larger footings below ground level allowing you more flexibility in designing your house plans without having to worry about the ground conditions.
When compared with other types of foundations, concrete piers allow for more flexibility in design and are a superior option when you consider that many homes need to be built on hard or rocky soil because it is near water or wetlands. They are also ideal if you find yourself building on sloping terrain as they offer stability without having to build expensive retaining walls which can prove costly over time.

How much will it cost to have concrete piers installed?
The cost of concrete piers may vary depending on the size and depth. For a typical residential project, you might pay around $150 per pier. If installing more than one pier in your yard, they will typically be priced at a rate of $50 for each additional pier over two (or about 15% off to round).
Contractors should also install drainage pipes under any new foundations installed with concrete piers so excess water can drain away instead of collecting and causing damage. Alternatively, foundation drains can be dug out by hand if pouring concrete is not an option due to high ground levels or other factors that would make installation too difficult without expensive equipment such as heavy machinery. Consult with your contractor before signing anything!
Other considerations when using concrete piers as a foundation
The cost of concrete piers is typically less than other foundation options. Concrete pier foundations can be made to rise from the ground at any height necessary or desired for a particular structure. There is minimal disturbance to the environment when installing concrete piers, and no need for excavating below grade.
Concrete piers for the foundation can be installed by drilling holes and filling with concrete at ground level, or sunken precast pier units are available that eliminate the need to drill. The surface of the concrete is roughened to better anchor reinforcing steel bars. This process creates what is known as a “reinforced skin” which strengthens the reliability of this type of foundation system
